







Biography
Damon Young is an Australian philosopher and writer.
Born in Melbourne, and raised on the Mornington Peninsula,
Damon now lives in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs with his
wife, son and daughter.
Damon is the author of Distraction, described by London's Financial Times as 'lucid and optimistic'. His next book,
The Mystery of the Garden, will be published in early 2011. He is also co-editing Martial Arts and Philosophy,
with Graham Priest, due out in the US in September 2010.
Damon's opinion and features have been published in The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, Herald-Sun,
BBC and ABC. He has written poetry and fiction for Overland and Meanjin. He regularly comments on radio, and has
appeared on Channel 7 and ABC TV.

Academic Biography
Damon holds a PhD in Philosophy, after a BA (Hons) in Philosophy and
Literature. He is an Honourary Fellow in Philosophy
at the University of Melbourne, where he was a Research Fellow in
Aesthetics from 2005-2007. He has taught philosophy,
as well as globalisation theory, literature and creative writing.
Damon has published essays in international and Australian scholarly
journals, including Philosophy
Today and Philosophy East
and West. He has delivered
lectures to academic audiences and schools, including The National Gallery of Victoria,
Geelong Grammar, Melbourne High, University High and the Methodist Ladies' College.
